The Automobil-Verkehrs- und Übungsstraße ('Automobile traffic and training road'), known as AVUS , is a public road in Berlin, Germany. Opened in 1921, it was also used as a motor racing circuit until 1998. Today, the AVUS forms the northern part of the Bundesautobahn 115. It hosted several pre-World War II races and one Formula One World Championship race - the 1959 German Grand Prix. At the time of opening on the 19th September 1921, AVUS was 19.569 km (12.160 mi) long – each straight being approximately half that length, and joined at each end by flat, large-radius curves, driven counter-clockwise. The circuit from 1922 was the site of motorcycle races. On 11 July 1926 the track played host to the first international German Grand Prix for sports cars, organised by the Automobilclub von Deutschland. We celebrate this remarkable racetrack with a Adler Triumph Junior Sport of which a modified version set a record on the course in 1935…

Two other innovations were introduced briefly in Hot Wheels cars in the 1980s – Thermal Color Change paint, and rotating 'crash panel' vehicles ("Crack-Ups"). The former was able to change color on exposure to hot or cold water, and there was an initial release of 20 different cars, available as sets of three vehicles. The latter were vehicles with a panel that, on contact, would rotate to reveal a reverse side that appeared to be heavily dented. Variations in crash panels included front, rear and side panels, the last of whose mechanism has proven to be the most durable. Here we have the Crack UP Top Bopper being crashing by a twig …
